The Daystar SS60DS Solar Scout Telescope is an entry-level Hydrogen Alpha telescope with a focal length of 930mm. This produces a comfortable image of the Sun when paired with a 25mm Plössl eyepiece. A shorter eyepiece will produce a larger image, but if the image is too large, outer details of the chromosphere may be lost.
The Solar Scout is a doublet 60mm refractor, producing sharp images for both visual observation and solar astrophotography.
The telescope has a front-mounted helical focuser that will not rotate or move the eyepiece.
The filtering portion of the telescope is a fixed, top-quality Quark unit that filters the sun’s rays to a narrow but adjustable bandwidth, allowing you to concentrate on either the chromosphere or prominences. The Quark’s etalon is adjusted through heat, which is powered by a Micro-USB power.
Observers can use the ‘Solar Bullet’ finder to safely locate the sun. This unit casts a dot onto a white surface with a crosshair.
The telescope attaches to a mount using a standard Vixen /Photo style mounting foot.
