The Farpoint 2″ Super Collimation Kit is the complete three-tool collimation solution for Newtonian and Dobsonian reflectors — laser collimator, Cheshire eyepiece, and autocollimator bundled together in a padded carrying case. This is the kit for astronomers who want the highest possible collimation precision. Precision-machined in the USA with a lifetime alignment guarantee on the laser and autocollimator.
The Three-Tool Workflow — How It Works
Step 1: Laser collimator. Insert the laser into your focuser. It gives you an accurate secondary mirror alignment and gets your primary into the ballpark quickly. The laser beam provides immediate visual feedback so you can see exactly where adjustments are needed.
Step 2: Cheshire eyepiece. Swap in the Cheshire. Its reflective pane reveals subtle misalignment that the laser alone can’t detect, delivering the final, precise primary mirror alignment. No batteries, no electronics — just a clean optical reference.
Step 3: Autocollimator. For the ultimate refinement, the autocollimator enables an iterative approach — going back and forth between adjustments to push collimation to the tightest possible precision. This is the step that separates good collimation from perfect collimation.
Why Farpoint Tools Are Different
- Single-piece machined laser body — not assembled from parts, ensuring perfect concentricity from the factory
- 8-screw alignment system — locks both ends of the laser diode with directly opposing screws for lasting precision
- 0.76mm beam aperture — the smallest on the market, less speckling, more precise readings
- No-compromise Cheshire — single-purpose reflective-pane design, not a compromised Cheshire/sight tube combination
- Precision autocollimator — machined to optical-grade tolerances after 10 years of iterative design refinement, consistently rated the finest on the market by our customers
