Enjoy everything the Sun has to offer — prominences, surface granulation, active regions, filaments and more seem to leap from our closest star, all captured in the stellar quality performance you expect from a Lunt Telescope.
When the Sun sets, simply remove your hydrogen alpha module, replace your focuser, and let the night time in.
The Lunt 100 mm packs a powerful triplet ED APO lens (FPL53 glass) that will guide you across the Milky Way in stunning detail. Now you have a top-of-the-line, extra-low dispersion (ED) night time telescope to view planets, stars, the Moon and anything else in between.
Professional Grade APO Triplet OTA
The 100 mm Universal Telescope joins Lunt Solar Systems’ Universal day and night line-up, allowing you to enjoy the complete range of astronomical observation using only one telescope.
With 100 mm of aperture, this scope is big enough to impress in any of its configurations, while retaining a transportation-friendly form factor for use during the day or night.
Like all of Lunt’s Universal Telescopes, our 100 mm supports multiple wavelength configurations (white light, Hydrogen Alpha and Calcium-K).
Blocking filter options
Which blocking filter you will require will be determined by how you are going to use the scope. The size of the blocking filter determines the size of the field you can see, and for large camera sensors, a small blocking filter may result in vignetting, meaning the corners of the sensor will not receive the required quantity of light.
- 12mm in a 2″ diagonal or straight-through tube configuration
- 18mm in a 2″ diagonal or straight-through tube configuration
- 34mm in a 2″ straight-through tube configuration
Focuser Options
The Lunt 100mm Universal (modular) telescope is currently supplied with 2″ Rack and Pinion focuser.
Feather Touch focusers are also available but due to the long lead times these are shipped separately. Contact Sidereal Trading if you require a Feature Touch focuser.
Additional optional extras (sold separately)
Double Stack filter module
The Double Stack module narrows the bandpass for solar viewing to <0.5 Angstroms. This enables you to see significantly sharper details on the sun and in the corona. The SFPT Double Stack Unit includes a pressure tuner for true Doppler tuning.
The double stack unit for the 100mm Universal is inserted next to the etalon, giving the telescope two pressure-tuning knobs.
White light solar wedge
The white light (or Herschel) wedge is an optical method of passing all frequencies of light but attenuating (dimming) them, so the sun’s image is safe to view (with a Hydrogen Alpha filter). Most of the light is not sent towards the observer, but transmitted to the bottom of the diagonal. This can make the diagonal hot to the touch. White light solar wedges are available in 1.25″ or 2″ sizes.
Polarising filter for white light
A Polarising Filter will help control the brightness of the Sun’s image when using a Lunt White Light Wedge visually. They are available in 1.25″ or 2″ sizes.
Calcium K module
A Calcium K wedge enables the viewer to observe the sun through an entirely different wavelength of light – near ultraviolet. This is especially suited to a camera as the human eye is not very sensitive to this frequency. They are available in a 12mm or 18mm size in either diagonal or straight-through configurations.
Reducer/flattener
Refractor telescopes produce a focal plane that is slightly curved. This means that stars in the corner of a flat sensor will have soft focus. A field flattener will solve this. At the same time, the reducer/flattener will shorten the focal length from 714mm to 571mm, giving you a wider field.
